Ray has worked in the ropes course industry since 2018 in Ireland and spent the most part of his life engaged in outdoor pursuits. Ray qualified college with business in sport and exercise, with sports science and coaching pedagogy as a major interest and merit.
Starting from a trainee level with a provider in Ireland, Ray progressed his skills learned in college and interest in the ropes course industry to become an ERCA Traditional High Ropes Trainer & ERCA Generic Rescuer Trainer in 2022.
Throughout 2023 Ray has dedicated his tuition and drive to become a qualified Type C inspector for ropes courses particularly throughout Ireland. This helps broaden Ray’s diverse skill set and further allows his trainer qualifications feed off his inspection certification in order to progress both!
Outside of inspecting ropes courses, Ray continues to work with an adventure company in Southern Ireland as an adventure manager with particular focus on training and development. Part of Ray's role with his company is staff training identification, implementation, reporting,
monitoring and program development. A new and pivotal part of Ray's role in the winter months with the company he is working for is co-ordinating and tutoring on an outdoor instructor course.
This course is now in its 2nd year and is 5 months in length, providing education for those who might be out of work, looking to be more employable or simply just wanting to experience a career shift into the outdoor industry.
In Ray's down time, he likes to keep healthy and active. Once a scholar athlete for sprinting and pole vault, then giving back to the sport as a coach for upcoming athletes in pole vault . Now he replaces the adrenaline uush of pole vaulting with enduro and downhill mountain biking. Most weekends are spent with 2 wheels on and off the ground.
